About
My works are focused around the theme of identity, truth, and freedom of expression. The country I grew up in had strict censorship rules, and forbade the freedom to expression, most of these rules directed at females. The interesting thing is the year I was born in, was a transitional year: When technology, and the internet became increasingly popular. My only siblings were older, and created a pressure to be as mature, and as much of a 90’s kid as they were. My family immigrated from Indonesia to Singapore whilst I was young, however the frequent visits to my homeland made it difficult for me to relate to any one social or cultural group, and my peers. My inability to relate to my peers resulted in what I believed to be a lack of identity. The “otherness” I face inspires my work.
